The iPod doesn´t generally allow you to extract the songs you have stored in it, so if you lose the files on the hard disk, you might permanently lose part of or the entire music library.

There are applications for Windows, as with iPod Folder, that allow you to back up the entire contents of the Apple player, but the file names will not stay the same as the originals.

TuneAid is compatible with all iPod models, including iPod Touch, and allows you to extract any songs you have on your iPod. Its interface is similar to that of iTunes playlists: on the left you have your playlists, and in the main area you have your music library.

At the bottom there is a small player that you can use to listen to songs before you extract them.
